Share Your Abundance with our Kenyan Brothers and Sisters
This lively annual celebration of our interfaith community supports the school lunch and food security program for Umoja Project students in the Chulaimbo area of western Kenya. This year the event will have the option of live or online attendance. Please choose the ticket type for the way in which you would like to participate. Jim Lemons will be the keynote speaker:
Jim Lemons attended Princeton University for undergraduate education, Northwestern for medical school, then completed residency at University of Michigan and fellowship in Neonatology at the University of Colorado. He joined Riley Children’s and Indiana University Medical School in 1978. Dr. Lemons has had a very long and productive academic medical practice and still serves as a neonatologist at the medical center, even though Pam has long retired her work as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Jim has published widely in the areas of maternal and child health in professional journals and books.
Beyond his academic medical profession, Dr. Lemons has served in leadership locally, regionally, nationally and internationally within the medical profession, at various non-profit endeavors, and at his church. Jim raised $3 million to build the Riley Mother and Baby Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya that delivers more than 20,000 babies a year and provides a 130-bed newborn intensive care unit. Jim and Pam have visited Kenya more than 30 times and have been instrumental in the development and expansion of several initiatives in Kenya. Jim Lemons has been a board member with the Umoja Partnership since it was started as Global Interfaith Partnership in 2007. He has served as the Chairman of the board, for the last three years. Jim is dedicated to his family, wife of 50 years, Pam, their three adult three children, son-in-law, and two grandchildren.
The first time I met Dr. James Lemons at his office at Riley Hospital we spoke for over three hours. We discussed the Umoja Project, which was the reason for the visit, but the conversation quickly wandered to family and the various ways he is serving others. Since that that first meeting, I have found both Jim and his wife Pam to show deep devotion to Kenya but they say Umoja Partnership is the most rewarding and impactful of all their commitments.
