In 2007, the Umoja Project started in 10 primary schools with a school lunch program. The number of partners schools has grown over the years. In 2021, we added Geta Primary School as our 20th school. We now serve school lunch to more than 4000 students each day and provide weekend and holiday food to 150 child-headed households.
Outcomes of school lunch program include:
- increased attendance in school
- Increased performance
- Increased participation in the classroom
- Increased graduation rate from primary school
- Increased matriculation to secondary school
In 2021 and 2022 our food security program will include school lunch for four terms instead of three while the country works to "make up" lost education time during 2020 due to the pandemic.
