$15,000 towards $1,000

In March of 2020 Jeff and I returned from Kenya, 2 days before airport shut downs and grounded flights. We had departed from Indianapolis February 20th to travel to Kisumu, Kenya where my church and several other places of worship support children impacted by AIDS. Jeff and I wanted to meet for ourselves the young beneficiaries of Umoja, and see for ourselves the community of the charity.

After two weeks of travel within Kisumu visiting a variety of the schools our Umoja students attended, observing student homes, serving the bean and corn soup lunch offered to Umoja children, conversing with students, their guardians, and teachers and finally helping build a mud house, we returned to Indianapolis feeling that Umoja was certainly making a difference in children's lives and the future of their communities.

Our Kenyan"families" are struggling more than they have in the recent past. With inflation, dryer weather conditions and remaining economic conditions since Covid. In 2024, we are serving 4,964 students. We also provide additional weekend and holiday meals for 150 child-headed households.

We will need to raise $50 per child to cover the costs for all needy students. The cost of grains alone per school is $4,225. We have added a new school in 2024 for a total of 22 schools.

Any amount raised toward our goal will fulfill our purpose of keeping kids in school and offering them a pathway out of poverty through education.

Even a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for the Umoja Partnership, a locally-led, globally-supported, interfaith partnership with both American and Kenyan leadership.Umoja is a major recipient of Jeff and my charitable giving.
